Rainbow Connections Community Day Will Brighten Up Your Weekend
Press Release
The Chester County History Center will host a daylong Community Day and pop-up Film Festival on August 8, combining family entertainment with a fundraising push to expand support services for LGBT youth statewide.
The event pairs a family-friendly daytime program with an evening concert. Daytime activities include Julia Petter’s music school recital, marking its 20th anniversary, alongside children’s activities such as face painting, lawn games, art projects, and an instrument petting zoo. Ice cream, concessions, beer, and wine will be available throughout the day.
Running alongside the festivities is an all-day Social Advocacy Film Festival. The featured film, “The Dads,” which premiered at SXSW, was produced by Dwyane Wade and directed by Emmy Award winner Luchina Fisher. Organizers say seats for the 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. screenings are filling quickly and recommend reserving tickets in advance.
Also screening is “Enduring the Storm,” a documentary chronicling three decades of work by Edge NJ, the event’s fiscal sponsor. Edge NJ began its work providing housing to people with AIDS and has since built more than 30 years of experience delivering housing and care services.
After 6 p.m., the event shifts to live music, with bands performing under a full sound and lighting setup.
Proceeds from the event will go toward a $300,000 fundraising goal — $150,000 has already been pledged for 2027 — that would fund a full-time caseworker to travel across Pennsylvania providing direct support to LGBT youth. Organizers say the state currently has very limited targeted aid for this population.
